Flexible Support Packages
Flexible Support Packages provide short-term assistance for children with backgrounds of complex trauma and extreme behaviours where support is required to stabilise their enrolment/attendance at kinder. Packages may be used to support a child in the short term while determining what longer-term support might be needed.
Who
Funded kindergartens may apply for packages to purchase tailored, short-term supports for children who:
- have a background of trauma and adversity in the early years
- consistently demonstrate behaviours of concern
- are enrolled in and attending a kindergarten program
- require immediate additional support to stabilise their attendance and participation in the kindergarten program.
What is available
For a period of up to ten weeks, packages can provide capacity building to:
- support and address challenging behaviour
- encourage regulation of attention, emotions and behaviour
- develop skills for positive interactions with peers and adults/educators.
The packages may be useful where eligible children have been enrolled in kindergarten mid-year and other supports are not yet in place.
